About Open Source

Open source projects are easy to find and hard to size up. This category collects those whose makers have filled in a proper profile: what the project does, who maintains it, where the code lives, how to reach the team and which social channels they use. Each entry is a fact box first and a pitch second, so you can judge a project by its details.

The page lists products and businesses from this category and its four subcategories, with filters to narrow the set. Newest launches appear first; switch to community votes if you would rather see what other visitors rate. Use the subcategory panels to pick the kind of project you need, then open a profile and read it through before you spend time on an install.

Open Source: questions answered

What belongs in Open Source?
Products and businesses whose main offer is software with published source code, or a company built around that software. Pick the subcategory that matches how people use it: a finished app, code you import, software you run on your own servers, or AI models and tooling.
Which subcategory fits a tool that is both an app and self-hosted?
Choose the one describing the first thing a user does. If they install and run it on their own server, take self-hosted tools. If they simply use the interface, take apps. Your main category is included free; the $5 upgrade adds further categories if you need them.
How do I get a project listed here?
Go to /submit and enter your website address. The AI reads your site and drafts a profile, then you go through every field and correct it before anything is published. Free listings wait around 1-2 weeks; a paid launch is $5.
How are the projects in this category ordered?
Newest listings come first. Visitors can switch the order to community votes instead. Votes cannot be bought, so paying for a launch does not move a project up the voted order.
What should I check on a profile before choosing a project?
Look for named maintainers, a link to the code, a working contact route and social accounts that are in use. Read the history section to see how long the project has existed and how it has changed. Compare those facts across profiles rather than relying on a tagline.
