KeepMD EOB Decoder
Browser extension that explains EOB and medical bill text in plain English
A free browser extension for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari that decodes EOB and medical bill text with ICD-10-CM, HCPCS codes, and insurance terms explained
About

KeepMD EOB Decoder is a privacy-first browser extension that helps you understand explanation of benefits (EOB) documents and medical bills. Paste text from an EOB, upload a text-based PDF, or select text from a webpage to get plain-English explanations of ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, HCPCS Level II service codes, and common insurance terms, all processed locally on your device. The extension works on Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and Safari on Mac, requires no account or sign-in, and includes an optional local activity log. When you choose to continue in KeepMD mobile on Chrome, the extension creates an encrypted handoff so only you hold the decryption key.

Quick answers
- What is an EOB?
- An explanation of benefits (EOB) is a statement your health plan sends after it processes a claim for care you received. It lists what the provider charged, what your plan allowed and paid, and what you may owe.
- Where is the KeepMD icon after I install it?
- Chrome, Edge, and Firefox put new extensions in the puzzle-piece Extensions menu. Open it and pin KeepMD EOB Decoder to your toolbar.
- How do I turn it on in Safari?
- Open the KeepMD EOB Decoder app on your Mac once, then turn on the extension in Safari Settings, under Extensions.
- Why isn't my CPT code explained?
- Official CPT descriptions are licensed by the American Medical Association. KeepMD flags CPT-style codes so you know they're there, but doesn't show the licensed wording.
- My PDF shows no text.
- KeepMD reads PDFs that contain real text. Scanned or photographed PDFs are images without a text layer, and this version doesn't include OCR.
